Plasma containment delayed

ITER's previous goal was to create plasma by 2025. That is postponed. 

ITER prepares to enter the full phase, presently scheduled for 2035. 

ITER came to be after a 1985 summit between  US President and Ronald Reagan and Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

In November 2022, Russia dispatched one of the 6 giant magnets needed for the plasma containment chamber, Tokamak.

In the 1960's, a group of pioneering scientists hypothesized that lasers could be used to induce fusion in a laboratory setting. 

LLNL built a series of increasingly powerful laser systems, leading to the creation of NIF. It uses powerful laser beams to create conditions, like in the cores of stars.

LLNL's experiment in December 2022, delivered 2.05 megajoules of energy, that resulted in 3.54 megajoules of fusion energy output.
